Abstract
Entrepreneurship research has evolved along a similar route, adapting organizational
psychology findings to understand the motivation to become an entrepreneur.
Entrepreneurs play a key role in any economy. In this paper we examine key
components of motivation that may contribute to the decision to become self-employed.
We begin with a review of the evolution of research on entrepreneurial motivation
starting with content-based theories of motivation.
